South Head is the peninsula that forms the entrance into Sydney Harbour. Together with North Head, it is called Sydney Heads. Areas not occupied by residential development are included in the Sydney Harbour National Park.
Visitors to South Head can explore it on a footpath that starts at Camp Cove Beach. The footpath - a cobblestone lane dating from 1870 - takes you past a number of heritage sights and beaches in the area, while at the same time offering scenic views of the surroundings. At the tip of South Head is HMAS Watson, a Royal Australian Navy training base.
