Built at a cost of A$52 million, Sydney Wildlife World features a one-kilometer walkway that winds its way through some 7,000 square meters of enclosures holding 6,000 animals from 130 native species. The upper level exhibits are open air, with the supporting roof beams designed to look like the ribs of a giant serpent of Aboriginal myth.
The biggest exhibit at Sydney Wildlife World features the semi-arid habitat of the red kangaroos. To create this exhibit, 250 metric tonnes of red sand had to be trucked in, along with full-sized bottle trees.
The Sydney Wildlife World won The Australian's 2007 Travel and Tourism Awards for the best family-focused tourism product.
